Rebel Lion is San Antonio rapper Scott Newman, whose barbecue song “Sauce That” won five awards in Hollywood and whose coffee song “GAMFC” became a real canned cold brew.

Rebel Lion is the recording name of Scott Newman, a rapper from San Antonio, Texas. The video for “Sauce That,” a song about barbecue by someone who has never run a pit, won five awards at the AI International Music Video Festival in Hollywood in 2026. The 2022 single “GAMFC” became a canned cold brew roasted by San Antonio’s Pulp Coffee Roasters. The debut album, Bluebonnet Plague, is out July 27, 2027.

Rebel Lion is Scott Taylor Newman, born in San Antonio on July 27, 1990. The name is a pun — say it fast and it is rebellion — and the lion goes back to a second-grade production of The Lion and the Mouse.

Newman co-founded the sketch and music channel You’re Invited TV with Bryan Powell, built around San Antonio’s comedy and music scene, then released the first Rebel Lion single, “Midriff” (featuring Partee McFly and BiGGs Malone), in 2021. From 2021 to 2024 Newman worked at the San Antonio fabricator Cruising Kitchens, including as crew on MotorTrend’s Built for Business.

A night at Palmfest in Port Aransas, watching competition pitmasters spritz briskets on a schedule at 3am, became “Sauce That.” Its no-budget AI video won Best Music Video, Best Comedy and Best Experimental from the jury and Best Music Video and Most Fun from the audience at the AI International Music Video Festival on August 15, 2026. The follow-up, “Cruisin'” with singer Ella Mac, was a selection, nominee and finalist at the World AI Music Festival in Cannes and premiered in Hollywood that October.

The 2022 single “GAMFC” is now a two-ingredient canned cold brew, roasted in San Antonio by Pulp Coffee Roasters. The debut album, Bluebonnet Plague — about ten years and a lot of personal savings in the making — arrives on July 27, 2027, Newman’s 37th birthday.
